CLEVELAND — With Thursday’s news of two Cheap Cleveland Indians Jerseys fan favorites – Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco – being traded away, many fans are convinced the Dolan family should put the team on the market.

However, is it possible they’re also preparing for a move? Fans say there are signs it’s on the horizon.

“When it comes time to pay guys some big dollars, it always seems there’s no chance we’re going to be able to do it,” Jeremy Werden, a lifelong Cleveland sports fan, said. “It certainly would appear to be going down that avenue for big change, like selling the team or something like that.”

This is not the first time the team has traded away big name players, but Werden highlights some other signs that make him worry.

First, at the moment, 23 baseball players have an individual salary that is higher than the entire team’s payroll. Second, attendance at Cleveland baseball games is among the worst in the league, even when the Tribe was a World Series contender from 2016-19. Third, a team name change is in the works.

But the final clue? The Indians lease of Progressive Field expires in 2023, although there are extensions they can choose to exercise.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Thursday must have felt like draft day all over again for Josh Wolf and Isaiah Green.

Not more than two years removed from high school, the pair of second-round picks learned that they are heading to the Indians as part of the return on a trade that sent Cheap Francisco Lindor Jersey and Cheap Carlos Carrasco Jersey to the Mets.

Wolf, a right-hander, pitched eight innings in five appearances for New York’s rookie level team in 2019. Greene played only five high school games as a senior in 2020 before COVID-19 shut things down.

Both seemed eager to embrace the Indians organization after learning about the trade. Wolf said on Instagram that he’s “ready to get to work in Cleveland and help bring a championship to the Land!”

Greene was stunned to read that he’d be wearing a different jersey after Thursday, adding “I am seriously looking forward to being part of @indians.”

Wolf and Greene join Amed Rosario and Andres Gimenez in the package coming back to Cleveland for Lindor and Carrasco. All four were drafted and developed by the Mets, but Wolf and Greene were picked under ex-GM Brodie Van Wagenen’s regime, so it’s unsurprising that current Mets president Sandy Alderson felt comfortable parting with them.

The duo was ranked ninth and 10th in MLB Pipeline’s most recent list of top Mets minor leaguers.

Wolf hails from Texas where he was drafted out of Saint Thomas HS. MLB Pipeline rates both his curveball and his fastball as plus pitches. He averaged around 94 mph in his rookie ball season. He also earned recognition for his ability to adapt and his aptitude for making adjustments.

Indians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti said Wolf is developing a slider and has the ingredients to become a successful starter at the major league level. That could certainly take off once Wolf gets a chance to meet Cleveland’s player development staff, which has a history of accelerating a pitcher’s growth.

“We’re excited to welcome him to the organization and partner with him and our pitching group to help him develop on that path to being a really good pitcher,” Antonetti said.

Greene, a California-born outfielder, projects as a lefty-hitting centerfielder with comparisons to Michael Brantley and Garrett Anderson. MLB Pipeline scouts describe his talent as “raw” but he brings a contact-oriented approach to the plate as well as speed to run the bases. He was ranked the 49th-best prospect available in the 2020 draft. Antonetti lauded his discipline at the plate.

“He controls the strike zone really well and good contact ability,” Antonetti said. “Great ingredients to work with to develop into a productive player on both sides of the ball.”

With a degree of uncertainty facing minor leaguers as spring training approaches, Antonetti said it has not yet been determined where the duo will begin their Indians careers.

“It’s probably too early to say,” Antonetti pointed out. “With all that’s happened in the minor leagues right now and we’re scratching our heads as to where we start some of our own guys. The first thing we want to do is get to know Josh and Isaiah a little bit, have an opportunity to see them at some point when we start in spring training and then figure out where the best place for them to begin their career with us.”

“With the stadium lease coming up in 2023, those all seem to be pointed towards one direction which would may be selling the team,” Werden said.

We all remember when the Browns left town after the 1995 season – Art Modell taking them to Baltimore and ripping out the hearts of fans in the process. It was that decision that lead to state legislators, lead by former Cleveland mayor and then-State Sen. Dennis Kucinich, to enact a new law that would attempt to protect cities from sports teams that might leave them high and dry.

“I was absolutely determined to find a way to protect Cleveland and other cities in Ohio from ever being in a position where we were at the mercy of a professional sports team just picking up and going,” Kucinich said of his efforts.

The Modell Law, as it’s called, is designed to give cities some protection by requiring teams to give cities a heads up before they go and an option to keep the team in town.

“If a team is in a tax-supported facility or given any kind of tax support whatsoever, they can’t move that team,” Kucinich explained. “They have to give the city the ability to purchase the team, either directly or through a group of investors.”

It’s a unique law that you won’t find in many places. In fact, no law of its kind has ever been put to the test in court – although it was the basis for a lawsuit filed by then-Attorney General Mike DeWine against owners of the Columbus Crew when they wanted to move the MLS team to Texas back in 2018.

That issue was resolved without court involvement after Browns owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam purchased the franchise along with some investors from Columbus. The Crew rewarded their efforts last year by winning the MLS Cup, and a new stadium is also in the works.

According to Forbes, the Indians are worth $1.15 billion as of April 2020. That’s nearly four times the $323 million the Dolans paid back in 2000 when they purchased the team from Richard Jacobs.

To be clear: While the Dolans aren’t dishing out money by any means, they’re not publicly expressing a will to get rid of the team either – no matter what fans desire. The family also has deep roots in the city as fifth-generation Clevelanders, making any desire to move the club out of town unlikely.

Last month, when announcing the team name would change, Paul Dolan talked about the ballclub’s legacy:

“While I have often associated these unforgettable memories with the name Indians, I sincerely believe Cleveland is the most important part of our team name.”

Hopefully, those words are a sign ownership is committed to The Land for the long-term. Then again, we thought the same of the Browns before they skipped town in the ’90s.

Only time will tell.

We start 2021 with hopes that everything starts on time. Five weeks from now, pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report to their Spring Training facilities. According to Cheap Kyle Gibson Jersey, the Rangers representative to the Players’ Union, “There might be some details that are still up in the air. Our CBA lays out pretty clear the dates that MLB and the players have agreed upon to start Spring Training and the season. From what I’m seeing, I don’t think there’s any desire right now to move those,” Gibson said during the Winter Caravan chat Wednesday.

Therefore, we enter 2021 assuming things are on schedule. The Rangers have many questions entering 2021, but the main head-scratcher is how the rotation will look. I think it’s a more straightforward path to predict the infield, outfield, and bullpen roles for this club, but the rotation presents some inquires. Here’s a likely projection of the Rangers 2021 rotation.

Kyle Gibson
Unless the Rangers make a high strung splash before Opening Day. I think it’s safe to assume Kyle Gibson stands in at least the one or two spot in the rotation. If Gibson gets the opening day nod, it would be the first in his career. It’s doubtful the Rangers go out and get an ace that fits the opening day mesh. Therefore, it’s slim pickings on what they have to work with. Also, Kauffman Stadium ties for the most games Kyle has pitched as an opposing pitcher (13 games, 11 starts, and one complete game).

Kohei Arihara
I placed Arihara in the second slot because he’s known as an innings eater. Unless someone comes from out of the blue, I foresee Texas finishing in the bottom in MLB in innings by “starter” (look for a lot of opener usage in 2021). However, Kohei’s background shows as a breath of fresh air regarding traditional starter work. If Arihara dominates Spring Training, he may sneak to opening day, but it’s unlikely. Arihara seems like a solid four starter on any given club, but for the 2021 Rangers, I like Kohei in the two slot.

Dane Dunning
Cheap Dane Dunning Jersey was a piece the Rangers received from the Chicago White Sox for Lance Lynn. Dunning started seven games last season for the White Sox, including appearing in the final Wild Card game against Oakland. In his last two starts in 2020, he struggled, but overall, he positively impacted and threw three excellent games. An impressive start came on September 15th against a powerful Minnesota Twins lineup where Dunning allowed just one run over seven innings and struck out seven. Dane threw 102 pitches on that day in Chicago. There’s a chance that if Dunning excels in Spring Training, he could be an under the radar candidate for opening day in Kansas City.

Baseball America has their top 10 prospect list for the Cheap Texas Rangers Jerseys out today, headed up by Josh Jung, who they say “has a strong chance” of becoming a star. I was skeptical of the decision to take Jung in 2019, but the raves he’s gotten from BA and elsewhere have me eating crow on that.

Surprisingly high on the list is Cole Winn, who apparently turned heads at the Alternate Training Site this summer. Winn’s struggles in 2019, particularly early in the year, I know had folks down on him, and 2020 was inherently going to be a significant year for him. He’s apparently made some significant strides, though, and those of you who go see the Roughriders could get to watch him later in the summer.

Maximo Acosta and Luisangel Acuna also made the second half of the list, and one of the things to watch come May, when A and AA ball starts up, is whether one or both of them makes their stateside debut with Down East (which is low-A now, don’t forget).

Cheap Taylor Hearn Jersey

Out of all of the young bullpen/long relief guys the Rangers used in 2020, Taylor Hearn seemed like he has the arsenal and potential to fit the starter role. “Taylor expressed his desire to start. We’re going to try to get him built up,” Chris Woodward said. Hearn is a powerful lefty with a great combination of pitches and an excellent repertoire. Hearn did not allow an earned run in ten of his fourteen outings in 2020 (2.76 ERA in that span).

Biblically number 20 means “Redemption” personally I took 2020 as double redemption year for me and to be back healthy and competing again I couldn’t thank the Lord enough and I give him praise on credit for what he about to do moving forward! #TogetherWe @Rangers pic.twitter.com/69mUZ2kk1X

Cheap Jordan Lyles Jersey first then Kyle Cody/Wes Benjamin/Kolby Allard/Peanut Gallery
The fifth spot is an intriguing piece. I think Jordan starts the year in the rotation. However, toward the quarter mark, Chris Woodward may decide to push a starter into a long-relief role and allow guys like Cheap Kyle Cody Jersey, Cheap Wes Benjamin Jersey, and Cheap Kolby Allard Jersey some work. Remember, if we’re talking full season, we’re talking about six months. Once we get to that point, look for a lot of split starts. Remember, injuries to the pitching staff WILL happen (it’s, unfortunately, a reality). Texas liked what they saw from guys like Cody and Benjamin, so don’t show any shock if one of them gets the early role of opener or long relief man. To start the season, the fifth starter role is Jordan Lyles’ spot to lose.

Starter shuffling will be a thing for the Rangers in 2021 and most teams. The question is if these guys who showcased their talents in 2020 can take another step forward in 2021. It’ll also be interesting to witness how this group works with Doug Mathis and Brendan Sagara, the Rangers pitching coaches.

CLEVELAND — For the first time since 2016, the Indians made a selection in the Major League portion of the Rule 5 Draft on Thursday afternoon, but the team also lost two of its prospects.

Though it was conducted through a Slack channel and an online audio stream rather than a conference room at the Winter Meetings, the Rule 5 Draft carried on as usual on Thursday, as the Indians selected right-hander Cheap Trevor Stephan Jersey from the Yankees’ Triple-A roster. The Tribe also lost righty Luis Oviedo (who was drafted by the Mets and immediately traded to the Pirates, a source told MLB.com) and outfielder Ka’ai Tom.

The 25-year-old Stephan was ranked the Yankees’ 24th-best prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. He relies heavily on his fastball (a pitch that tops out at 98 mph) and has decent spin rates on his slider/cutter. The 6-foot-5 Stephan, who has been a starter in New York’s system, struggled so much with command in 2019 (issuing nine walks in his final 13 outings) that MLB Pipeline experts have projected he could become a two-pitch reliever in the Majors rather than remain a starter.

Cleveland has already lost Brad Hand, Oliver Pérez and Adam Cimber from its bullpen, so another relief arm could prove to be helpful.

Stephan was a third-round selection in the 2017 MLB Draft out of the University of Arkansas. He owns a 3.70 career ERA in three Minor League seasons with 275 strikeouts in 238 2/3 innings. The addition of Stephan puts the Tribe’s 40-man roster at 38 players.

The Tribe also gained an outfielder on Thursday in the Minor League portion of the Rule 5 Draft, selecting Chris Roller from the Dodgers’ Class A Advanced team. The 24-year-old was a 30th-round pick by Los Angeles in the 2017 MLB Draft out of McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas, and he has hit .255 with a .774 OPS and 31 steals in 187 Minor League games.

While the Indians picked up two players — one in the Major League portion and one in the Minor League portion — in the Rule 5 Draft, they also lost two. Oviedo was chosen first when the Mets selected him with the ninth pick. New York then traded him to the Pirates for cash considerations.

Oviedo was the Tribe’s No. 25 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. But in a system with so many talented starting pitchers, there were only so many it could protect. Oviedo has a fastball that sits in the mid-90s, and his curveball developed into his best secondary pitch in 2019. But Oviedo, who posted a 2.05 ERA in 11 starts across two levels in ’18, pitched to a 5.38 ERA in ’19.

The Indians also lost outfielder Tom, who was selected by the A’s with the 16th pick after not getting taken in last year’s Rule 5 Draft. Cleveland has a desperate need for talented outfielders, but the 26-year-old was not part of Cleveland’s 60-man player pool this season. In 2019, he hit .290 with a .912 OPS, 27 doubles, 10 triples, 23 homers and 86 RBIs in 132 games split between Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus. However, with the Tribe looking to try its top prospect in Cheap Nolan Jones Jersey in the outfield to go along with Cheap Daniel Johnson Jersey, there was no clear path for Tom to make an immediate impact.
